  • March 10th, 2024
  • 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
  • Ukrainian Cultural Centre, main hall ( 1st floor) 3277 Douglas street, Victoria, BC

We would like to invite you to celebrate 153 years since birth of Lesya Ukrainka at our book club meeting. We are going to discuss historical drama ‘The Orgy’ (1913).

The play introduces readers with the antique world. The main topic is confrontation between Greece and Rome.

This patriotic work was ideologically directed against the harsh colonialist policy of the imperialist states that abused the enslaved peoples, including the Ukrainian people.

The hero of “The Orgy” is the Hellenic singer Antaeus, one of the “descendants of Prometheus”, who equally passionately loved his homeland and hated its enemies, wanted to die, but not to bow down to the conquerors, not to betray his own people.

Hardcopies in Ukrainian and English are available in the Ukrainian library in Victoria.
