Donations from TC readers provided everything from food to bus passes for arriving families, and helped finance the creation of Ukrainian Village, a transitional housing community.

Located in the territories of the W̱SÁNEĆ and Lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. The Lək̓ʷəŋən are represented today by the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, and the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples include the W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip), SȾÁUTW̱ (Tsawout), BOḰEĆEN (Pauquachin), W̱SIḴEM (Tseycum), and MÁLEXEȽ (Malahat) Nations.
